PixiSafe is a French USB key that backs up the photos and videos of an iPhone or an Android smartphone, with no cloud and no subscription. You plug it into the phone, open the companion app — a free download, activated by the key — and the backup starts. Only new files are copied each time, they are sorted automatically by year and month, and they stay readable on any computer, with no software needed. The key sells for €79, €99 or €149 depending on capacity, paid once. It is designed and developed by AT WORK PC, in La Colle-sur-Loup in the Alpes-Maritimes, France.

The apps
Both companion apps are free to download from the App Store and Google Play. With a PixiSafe key they unlock at no extra cost: the licence is carried by the key, with no account and no subscription. Without a key, the app lets you try the backup on 30 files, then offers a one-off in-app unlock: €29.90 on iPhone, €29.99 on Android (French pricing, no subscription). They are developed in-house, with no outsourcing.
